Neum is a holiday resort town. Besides swimming and sunbathing, there are boats for rent at several places on the beach.
From Neum you can jump on the excursion boats that travel up and down the Adriatic coastline. Scuba diving is relatively inexpensive compared to Croatia and other western Mediterranean countries.
Jet skis and water skiing are also organized from beachside rental outlets.
Dubrovnik is only an hour's drive from Neum, and the peninsula of Peljesac is a stone's throw away. From Orebic on Peljesac you can catch a ferry to the beautiful island of Korcula.
In the hinterland behind Neum is the village of Hutovo and the ancient ruins of Hadzibegova kula Fortress, used by the Ottomans to defend their western front.
Here you can also visit the traditional village house
Zavicajna spomen kuca with authentic furniture and
artefacts of the Herzegovina region used in the past. The holy site of Svetiste Kraljica mira is a shrine to the Queen of Peace in Hrasno. It has more local significance but those who have come on a pilgrimage often pay a visit to this tiny hinterland shrine.
Within the shrine there is an Ethnographic Museum
with over 300 artefacts used in everyday life in the past
times. Hutovo blato, Ljubuski and Medugorje are all within an hour's drive of Neum for day trips, with Mostar only being a little further.
The hinterland behind Neum is also rich with medieval
tombstones. The necropolis in the village of Vranje, 2 km
from Neum towards Stolac, is home to the medieval tombstone
with symbols and emblem of the Nikolic family who
ruled the lower Herzegovina region in the period between the
13th and 15th century. The motif from this emblem (hawk) was
used for the emblem of the Municipality of Neum.
30 km from Neum there is another traditional village house
„Kuca seoskog turizma” on Brstanica. The Jurkovic
family who lives here will give you a little tour around the
house and introduce you to the traditional way of living. Do
not miss trying the traditional dishes and drinks they
